We rely on CO2-neutral production of steel as a raw material

For years, we have been working with suppliers who deal with this topic just as intensively as we do. Thanks to AFV Beltrame, we can now offer about 20% of our steel range in CO2-neutral. Other steel mills will certainly follow suit.

AFV Beltrame Group is a leading steel manufacturer in Europe, headquartered in Vicenza, Italy.
Carlo Beltrame, Country Manager France & Romania and Group Chief Business Development Officer, visited Ellwangen for the introduction of CO2-neutral steel (Chalibria) at Friedrich Kicherer GmbH & Co. KG. He was accompanied by Enrico Fornelli (CCO of the Beltrame Group), Klaus Rieger (Sales Director German-speaking countries) and Erik Linden (Sales Manager German-speaking countries).

CO2-neutral steel from AFV Beltrame

Chalibria is a CO2-neutral steel produced through innovative technologies and sustainable production processes. The AFV Beltrame Group strives to minimise the environmental impact of steel production and to meet the highest quality standards. Chalibria makes this possible through the use of renewable energy and advanced CO2 reduction technologies.

"With Chalibria, the AFV Beltrame Group is setting a milestone in the steel industry and offering customers a sustainable solution that meets their own sustainability goals while ensuring the highest quality and performance," says Klaus Rieger (Sales Director German-speaking countries).

Chalibria is used in a wide range of applications, including construction, automotive, and renewable energy. Customers can be sure that Chalibria will not only reduce their carbon footprint, but also benefit from the steel's outstanding properties and durability.

Clear course as a sustainable company

We work day after day on sustainable resource use for a circular and CO2-neutral future to protect livelihoods such as forests, water and biodiversity.

The inclusion of CO2-neutral steel in the warehouse program is the logical consequence of our sustainability efforts. In 2022, we were already awarded by Nordwest Handel AG for special sustainability.

Sustainability at Kicherer

The Kicherer photovoltaic system - bigger than a wind turbine

Two photovoltaic systems are located on two areas of 4,700m² and 7,800m² respectively. Here, a total output of 2,005 kWp and an annual yield of 1,900,000 kWh is achieved. This covers about 70% of the company's annual electricity consumption.

With heat pumps - but without gas

Kicherer uses heat pumps and can do without fossil fuels. Renewable energies are used directly from the environment to generate energy for the office complexes. The buildings are operated by four heat pumps.

Climate-conscious commuting

The absolute main focus is on transport. Kicherer wants to deliver customer addresses further away in such a way that after unloading at the customer's site, minimal distances remain as empty runs until a loading point in a steel or rolling mill or a sea or inland port is reached. For example, the proportion of empty kilometres is very low, depending on the procurement situation.

Holistically sustainable

For years, we have been subordinating all our projects, new buildings, renovations and processes to improving sustainability - this applies to the continuous improvement of warehouse logistics as well as environmental projects such as the construction of retention basins, tree planting, our own well or our animal husbandry.
